I stumble this cute DIY craft. It’s a mosaic tile paper weight. Kids can make and give to mom, dad or even to grandma or grandpa.
If you have scrap mosaic tiles, this is a good way also to recycle them.
The materials needed to make this paper weight are:
Here’s how to do it:
First make the clay tile chips. Then paint the tile chips with the desired colors and set them aside to dry. Once the painted tiles are dry, make the base for your paper weight out of self-hardening clay. Use your hands to shape it or use a mould (e.g. large cookie cutter), if you have any. Make the shape fairly thick. Arrange the tile chips like a jigsaw puzzle on top of the clay base. Remember to leave some space betweeen each piece. If you have difficulty finding a good fit, especially with the last few pieces, you can trim and cut the tiles into a more suitable size and shape. Once you have laid out the pieces, press each tile into the clay base, carefully supporting the sides of the base to retain its shape. Allow the clay to set completely. This may take a day or more, depending on the size of your work and the relative humidity in your area. When your mosaic has set completely, brush over a thick layer of white glue on the tiles. The white glue will dry clear and will give the tiles a glazed look and brighter colors.
Making personalized gift from scrap materials is a good way to save money too.
